A small project showcasing my abilities on smoothly changing the objects into another. This project was an assignment from the Ben Marriott's Master Motion Design Course. I took great inspiration from the Ordinary Folk's gradient technique and wanted to try it out for myself.

The assignment was to create a morph transition between two objects. In this project, I wanted to push myself even further and try to morph between 3 unrelated objects and somehow connect it together creatively.

After coming up with a storyboard, I decided to turn the 3 main objects into vectors. By doing so, it makes it easier to transfer into After Effects and to play with color gradient ideas. Later, I decided not to go with the whole Newton's Cradle due to the gradient looking a bit strange.

After dissecting The Ordinary Folk's "Solimar" Project, I learned how they were able to get these really cool animated gradient textures. I created shapes of the colors I wanted in my gradient and then blurred them so they melded together smoothly. After I just used the vector as a mask for these gradients and added some layer styles to make the shape of the object more pronounced. Lastly, I added the deep glow effect to really make the colors glow and vibrant.

I created these impact frames in Photoshop in order to give the feeling that there really was something getting hit. The impact also helps keep the viewer's attention on the actual movement and physics while simultaneously letting me to try out some different gradient colors as well without distracting the viewer.

Technically there was only three actual morphs if it was based on solely vector manipulation. These morphs are the ice cream to the paddle, the drip to the ball, and the ball to the ice cream. It could potentially be four if we count the mental morph of the paddle ball turning into a newton's ball by adding a string.
